History of Motorcycles Choosing A Motorcycle Tips for Buyers
The Fascination with Motorcycles Motorcycle Types Buying Your Motorcycle

Tips for Buying a Motorcycle

When purchasing a new motorcycle, you will have the price of the motorcycle to deal with but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Here we will try to give you some tips on how to lower your cost of buying and owing a motorcycle. Some motorcycles are less expensive to own than others.

Maintenance Cost

The amount of money that you will need to maintain your motorcycle will all depend on which motorcycle you purchase. Purchasing a high performance motorcycle will need alot more maintenance than a motorcycle with a lower performance. This is mainly because motorcycles that produce more horsepower have components that cannot be tuned or replaced by a novice mechanic. You have to take these bikes to professionals who will probably charge you an arm and a leg for something like a valve adjustment.

There will always be maintenance cost but how many times a year your bike needs it is the problem. A smaller motorcycle will probably only need 2-3 major adjustments or checks a year depending on how much you ride your bike. These bikes are very economical for this reason.

Working Out A Deal
When you finally go out to buy your motorcycle, it is best to deal with the sales manager. They usually know how to best negotiate with a client. Be sure to ask the sales manager to quote you the "out the door" price on the motorcycle. The "out the door" price is the final price of the motorcycle after taxes and the other hidden fees. If they refuse to give you an out the door quote, that should give you warning that they are trying to hide something that they will charge you later. Run away!

Financing
With the price of motorcycles nowadays coming close to small cars, financing is probably the way that most of us will buy our motorcycle. Having good credit will usually be an indication of how much they will charge you. Try to call several banks and find out what their rates are. It is best to shop around for the lowest rate possible so you don't end up buying the motorcycle twice after you are done paying for it.

Insurance
Insurance is another topic that tends to scare new buyers away. You will need to be insured if you own a motorcycle. If you are buying a new one and financing it, you will need full coverage. Full coverage can get really expensive depending on what kind of motorcycle you have. Different companies rate them different ways but the most common is by engine size and how much expensive body work the bike has. Another important factor that will be taken into account is your driving record. But since we cant change the past, here is a tip for lowering your insurance cost.

If you are able to live with buying a motorcycle under 600 cc's, then you will drastically lower your insurance cost. These motorcycles are not as fast and agile as the super sport bikes but they do the job. If you can find  bike with a small engine and minimal body work then go for it. Another trick of lowering your insurance cost is to get a policy with a large deductible. A $250 deductible means that you have to pay $250 before the insurance will pay the rest. A lower deductible will raise your monthly payments whereas a bigger deductible will lower it. Yes you will have to pay more if you are in an accident but you will save yourself that money monthly in no time

Ride Safe
