Upgrade Your Bike
Metzeler was born with the motorcycle and we have been making
history with it for over 100 years.
Every Metzeler tire will upgrade your performance, looks, handling, and comfort - from
custom and choppers to Harley Davidson and metric cruisers.
Why upgrade? Here are 5 great reasons:
> MILEAGE
Advanced Silica Compound reduces rolling resistance, which increases mileage. Advanced
Silica compounding allows softer compounds to be used, while retaining High Mileage. Most
consumers get 2000 (or more) miles than O.E. tires.
> WET GRIP
Advanced Silica Compound combined with tread pattern, significantly increases wet
grip. The primary use of silica is for wet performance, which Metzeler pioneered in 1984
> RIDER COMFORT
Softer ride due to high-quality carcass construction materials. Rayon is the primary
fabric used in the ME880 and the most expensive ply material used in todays tires. Rayon
gives a softer ride but requires more air pressure (max sidewall pressure for double-up
riding)
> GROOVED PAVEMENT AND STEEL-GRATED BRIDGES
No circumferential grooves in the pattern, will not lock into directional grooves or
ridges. Directional Stability is significantly increased.
> MATCHING FRONT AND REAR TREAD PATTERNS
Over 55 sizes available in the same matching front and rear pattern

Upgrade Explanation:
The Metzeler Stage 1 upgrade helps you improve the mileage, ride, handling, and looks
without modifying your bike. A true BOLT-ON upgrade for everyone!

typically the purchase of a wide tire swing arm kit is necessary. This upgrade also
requires new wheels, fenders and tires, but it will give you the maximum effect in terms
of upgrading the looks of your bike. Handling, mileage and performance will remain at the
high standards you have become accustomed to from other Metzeler Motorcycle tires
Upgrade the rear tire looks and performance with Metzelers hot new ME880
Muscle tires and a custom wide tire kit on your bike to properly fit these tires you'll

Upgrade Explanation:
These bikes can be custom-built from the ground up, including custom frames (unlike the
other Stages that use stock H-D frames).
In this group, imagination rules, and anything goes - mild to wild
IMPORTANT FITTING INFORMATION:
Correct rim width may be critical to handling and stability.
A tire which is installed on a wider than recommended rim will have a
flattened profile, with a smaller contact patch during braking. Remember tire
clearances are important. Changes to your frame and suspension could alter the handling
characteristic of your motorcycle and cause clearance problems

Metzeler Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use a shorter sidewall tire to lower my seat
height?
A: The proper way to lower a motorcycle is with suspension or seat changes. Riding with a
lower profile tire could cause handling problems.
Q: Can I run oversize tires on my standard rims?
A: For standard motorcycles with radial or bias tires the anwer is no! Running bigger
tires in this instance will narrrow the contact patch. But if you are riding a Harley
Davidson motorcycle we have tested and approved many different upgrades for these bikes.
Go to the product info tab from the home page and click on the V-Twin brochure to see.
Q: May I run racing tires on the street?
A: There is no benefit to street use of racing tires. We offer the Sportec M1 street
tires. These are the best choices for grip, performance and mileage and they are priced
much less than the racing compound Rennsport tire!
Q: What is the Metzeler warranty policy?
A: This information can be found in the warranty area of the web site or in the full line
brochure.
Q: Do the Sportec M1 and Rennsport tires share technology?
A: Yes they sure do. The carcass design of the Rennsport is used in the new Sportec. This
design helps our tires warm up very fast, but it also prevents the tires from overheating.
Q: I am building a custom V-Twin and I see you offer both radial ME880 tires as well as
bias ply ME880 tires? How do I choose?
A: When building a custom bike there are many things choices that must be made. We offer
many oversize rear custom tires that are radial in construction and we also offer many
front tires in standard bias ply construction. The general rule with custom bikes and
these types of tires are as follows: You may install a radial rear tire with a bias ply
front tire, BUT you can never install a bias ply rear tire with a radial front tire. For
more information visit the V-Twin brochure at the product info tab.
Q: What is the difference between a tubeless and tube-type tire?
The tubeless tire has a special liner inside of the tire to prevent air loss. The tube
type tire relies on the tube to hold air. This means that you cannot run a tube type tire
without a TUBE!
A Closer Look at Metzeler
motorcycle tyre technology"
BIAS tyre AND THE MOST POPULAR MOTORCYCLE RIMS
Also indicated as conventional or x-ply tire. The structure of this tire is made of a
carcass where, depending on the different speed and load specifications, one or more
layers are overlapped. Each layer is made of textile cords coated into rubber and the
overlap angle is designed in order to confer the tire the required dynamic
characteristics.
BIAS-BELTED tyre
The structure of those tyres is realized with a conventional carcass and a belt made of
one or more crossed layers. The difference between carcass and belt is given by the
different goals that they have to fulfil and consequently the different materials that are
used: the belt is mainly made by Nylon and has to reduce the dynamic deformation due to
the centrifugal forces, while the carcass has to mainly give the tire its contour.
BELTED TYRE WITH RADIAL CARCASS (90°)
The main difference towards the bias-belted tyre is given by the structure of the carcass
that in this case is radial. This means that its cords are wrapped radially around the
tyre, means from one shoulder to the other. In this way low-section tyres can be realized,
giving big advantages in terms of cornering stability, reduced weight and high-speed
performance.
0°-STEEL BELTED TYRE WITH RADIAL CARCASS (90°)
Patented technology by Metzeler realizing the structure of both front and rear tyre using
a radial carcass and a single layer belt made of steel. Considering the rolling direction
of the tyre, the belt is winded circumferentially around the carcass giving an angle close
to 0°. The advantages coming from the use of steel are its extremely high rigidity and
the possibility to tune the winding spacing giving a differentiated stiffness distribution
from shoulder to crown.
