Something that started as a side business for
Birmingham entrepreneur Todd Sobel recently expanded
into a 43,750-sq.ft space on the city’s Southside.
Helmets Inc., Sobel’s wholesale motorcycle helmet
distribution company recently relocated to a former
event management group building/warehouse; this move
is an impressive expansion from its former 9,000 sq.
ft location.
“Our primary reason for relocating was to provide
more space for our mounting inventory,” says Sobel.
“We currently have close to 60,000 helmets in stock
and expect to continue growing.”
Helmets inc. business gross is already up 30% since
this time last year, and expects to sell over
300,000 helmets by the end of 2006. “We normally
will ship out 150-plus boxes daily; in fact, we
shipped almost 200 boxes on a recent day alone,”
according to Sobel.
Helmets Inc. is wholesale distribution only,
supplying over 900 national and international
motorcycle shops and franchises with Rodia and
Caliber helmet lines. Sobel reports 80% of his
business comes from clients within the U.S. and 20%
from overseas; his farthest clients are reportedly
in Australia. He advertises heavily in various biker
magazines, attends trade shows and uses his website
to expand his ever-growing client base.
“This purchase is a large step in our business plan,
and we expect to benefit both our businesses’ growth
and our commitment to our clients through this
